Brent Auerbach’s Well-Tempered Clavier Project
I've been playing Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier for more than twenty years! It is pretty much all I play, and I play it anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours a day.
Many years ago, I came across a website that "clicked" with me. It simply documents a Brooklyn resident, "David," making his way through both books of the Well-Tempered. His playing is not perfect, and neither is mine. But simply making it through the whole thing is an accomplishment, and - moreover - one worth documenting. His Well-Tempered Clavier Project is the inspiration for this one. (click here to leave and visit his site).
Where my project diverges is in the commentary. I offer this project as a tribute and maybe outreach for the WTC, as a resource for curious musicians and pianists. It is interactive and whimsicle. It offers some more "correct," "informed" insights about the pieces, but also many very personal, lived-in opinions on them.
